Martin J. Phipps

TRIAL ATTORNEY AND CO-FOUNDER

Martin’s “never back down and never give up” attitude is what brought him from the small town of Breckenridge, Texas to the first punitive damage award and highest per acre award in the United States for Arkansas rice farmers against the international behemoth Bayer. Martin’s tenacity and Arkansas state court trial victories resulted in the largest settlement in U.S. history for Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Missouri long grain rice farmers — $750 million dollars. Martin’s farmers received $50 million dollars more than farmers represented by other lawyers. How did he do it? Hard work. He set cases for trials and held the other Bayer’s feet to the fire. He believed in his farmers and they believed in him. As Martin recounts, “when a client puts his arm around you and says he is trusting his family to him, you fight for them until the end. It took 5 years of fighting but Martin won. And so did his clients.
