Hail is dangerous and unpredictable. Without warning, a hail storm can sweep through your area and cause costly damage to your car. Luckily, there are a few ways to help reduce damage to your vehicle and to assure that insurance will cover the damage done.
Use blankets to protect your car during a hail storm. If you don’t have a covered area, such as a garage, to shield your vehicle during a storm, then raid your linen closet and try to protect your vehicle by piling as many layers on the vehicle as possible.
Do not attempt to drive during a hail storm. If you are caught in the middle of a storm while driving, please pull over to a safe area, preferably covered. If you are unable to find a safe place to shield your car, position your vehicle so that the front of it takes most of the impact and climb to the back seat to take cover. The glass located at the front of a vehicle is generally more impact resistant and will be less likely to shatter.
Contact your insurance company immediately after the storm. Depending on the company, they may require you to go to a preferred car repair shop on their list. They will most likely send an adjuster to your home or car repair shop. Know that here at Phipps Moore LLP we will work with you to help get the most money for you claims.
